Here's a great example of a well known, but seldom reproduced rifle. While most are aware of the famous half stock rifles built by Hawken in St. Louis, few are aware that the firm also offered full stock rifles as well. In fact, out of all the manufacturers currently reproducing Hawken rifles, not a single one offers a full stock rifle.
This rifle is a faithful reproduction of the famous Full Stock Hawken. It's percussion lock combined with its early styling places it as a copy of an 1840's era rifle. It is stocked in an absolutely stunning piece of highly figured maple. The stock is very nicely shaped with only one or two minor handling marks and no cracks or splits. A very handsome patch box was inletted into the stock and a buffalo engraving was added to the lid.
The lock holds solid on both full and half cock. The set triggers function correctly.
The .62 caliber rifled barrel is another historically accurate feature, as many original Hawken rifles featured large caliber rifles capable of taking down large game. The bore is excellent with crisp rifling and or rust or pitting.
This completely custom, 100% American-made piece would be a fine addition to anyone's collection.
