Tom Nixon has long been considered to be one of the best builders of reproduction muskets in the country. Tom retired from musket building a few years ago; making guns like the one pictured below a real rarity. This M1842 was built by Tom in 2004. It is in near mint condition with a beautifully-crafted American Walnut stock that only has one or two minor handling marks. Nixon applied his cartouche to the left side lock panel; as he did on all his muskets.
The lock is an original 1849 dated Springfield. The action is perfect with the hammer holding solid on both full and half cock. The match grade barrel was made by Dan Whitacre and Nixon applied a period correct 1849 date stamp to the top breech flat as well as the proper VP and EAGLE proof marks. The rear sight was machined by Rich Cross and the front sight was made slightly taller than originals to allow for target shooting at 50 yds. The bore is mint with no rust or pitting.
All the furniture, with the exception of the ramrod, is original and in excellent condition.
This musket is sure to be the pride and joy of any shooter or reenactor. Tom Nixon guns are of the highest quality and hard to find. Don't miss out on this one.
