Here's an excellent, collector's grade 2nd Model Maynard. This carbine is all original and in beautiful condition. It's most outstanding feature is its striking receiver with vibrant color case hardening and crisp legible maker's stamps. The barrel matches the receiver with an excellent blued finish and nice inspector's stamps. The stock is very good condition, but it does have a few "drying cracks" that only effect the stock cosmetically as they do not go all the way through the stock. Two wonderfully crisp inspector's cartouches proudly adorn the stock wrist.
Mechanically, this Maynard is perfect. The barrel locks up tight against the breech and the hammer holds solid on both full and half cock. the flash hole in the receiver is wonderfully tight and not oblong or burnt-out.
The bore is in great shape with some light frosting here and there but wonderfully sharp rifling.
The screw heads retain much of their original fire-blued finish and all the slots are nice and sharp.
Carbines in this condition are a rarity. This would make a fine addition to even the most discriminating collector's carbine collection.
