The M1913 Cavalry Saber is better known as the "Patton Saber" as it was designed by famous American General George S. Patton. Patton believed that a thrusting saber would be most effective for mounted troops and thus designed the M1913 with a long, straight blade and a slender point. Unfortunately for Patton, advancements in technology made the cavalry saber and moreover the cavlaryman himself, obsolete before it was ever issued.
This particular M1913 is in good shape. Missing it's scabbard this saber has a great patina and good markings. The blade is in good condition and shows no evidence of being sharpened or ground on. The handle and hilt are nice and solid with no wiggle. Light salt and pepper pits cover the blade but they don't effect the stamps or markings.
