Here's a great, altered M1842 Springfield. This smoothbore was originally built by Springfield with a full length 42" barrel. However, at some point the musket was shortened by cutting the barrel to 36" and remounting both the middle and front barrel bands, as well as both band springs. This type of alteration is well documented as a Confederate alteration done at the Macon Arsenal in Georgia. And, while this very well could be a Confederate-altered musket, without any concrete evidence to tie this M1842 with the CSA, we are simply selling it as a cut down musket with "Macon-stylings".
This musket is in great condition. The lock works great on both full and half cock. The lock markings are crisp and legible.
The stock is sound with a few minor handling marks; but no major cracks or chips.
The barrel is in good condition, and the bore is fair with some areas of scattered rust and pitting.
