This carbine is an excellent copy of the famous Sharps New Model 1863. These reproduction rifles were produced by the Shiloh Sharps Company in Farmingdale New York-that's right, this beauty is all American-made! Shiloh produced these rifles for only a few years until they relocated their factory to its current location in Big Timber, Montana.
This particular Sharps is in fantastic condition. It features a custom breech block machined by Sharps guru W. A. Otts Crowther. Crowther was a pioneer in accurizing the Sharps for competition shooting. While many modern Sharps smiths modify existing breech blocks to achieve a tight gas seal, Crowther custom machined a new breech block that was custom fit to each individual Sharps he re-worked. These new breech blocks featured a two-piece breech with an "o ring" that allows for a near perfect seal and almost no gas leakage when shooting. All of these factors lend to a via reliable and accurate carbine.
The lock is in great shape with excellent color case hardening The bluing is on the barrel barrel is very good.
The lock functions perfectly and holds reliably on both full and half cock.
The stocks are both in great condition with only a few minor handling marks here and there.
The breech block seals tightly against the breech and the action is as smooth as silk. The bore is excellent with wonderfully sharp rifling.
Shiloh Sharps are highly sought after for their American quality, and these Crowther-modified Sharps are becoming extremely difficult to find. Don't let this one get away.
