This is a great, original Smith! It is all original and retains a lot of it's original finish. The action is smooth; holding solid on full and half cock. The lock up is very tight with no wiggle between the receiver and barrel. The receiver has some traces of case color which is beginning to patine. The brass lifter is a modern replacement, but functions correctly.
The bore is very good The rifling is perfect and there is no rust or pitting anywhere. The barrel retains some of its original bluing. The flash hole is nice and tight-not burnt out like so many other carbines. The rear sight is original, although the slide is a reproduction. The front sight has been replaced with a a taller blade.
The stocks are in good shape. with crisp edges and only a few scattered dings and dents. The are no cracks or chips anywhere. The trigger guard is slightly bend and sits "proud" of its mortise. The rear trigger guard screw is a replacment.
This Smith is a great gun. The condition of the bore and the tight lock up make this an excellent candidate for a skirmisher or collector.
