Here's a great Starr percussion carbine. These carbine were immensely popular during the war and generally well liked by the Union Cavalry.
This carbine is all original. The butt stock has a repair at the toe, as well as a repair near the lock mortise in which several small nails were used. Both repairs are very solid.
The lock has a great, smooth patina with some salt and pepper pitting. The markings on the lock are crisp and legible. The hammer holds solid on both half and full cock.
The mechanics of the breech block are nice and smooth. The block locks up solid with no wobble or play.
The barrel is full length and all the markings are legible. The rear sight is original and the front sight is a period replacement.
The bore is dark and pitted with strong rifling.
