Tom Nixon has long been considered to be one of the best builders of reproduction muskets in the country. Tom retired from musket building a few years ago; making guns like the one pictured below a real rarity. This Tom Nixon M1861 Special was built by Tom in 2001. It is in near mint condition with a beautifully-crafted American Walnut stock that only has one or two minor handling marks. Nixon applied his cartouche to the left side lock panel; as he did on all his muskets.
The lock is an original 1863 dated Amoskeag - the rarest of the "'61 Special" contractors. The action is perfect with the hammer holding solid on both full and half cock. The match grade barrel was made using an original breech by Bob Hoyt. The rear sight was machined by Rich Cross and the front sight is a "tall shooter" model for skirmishing. The bore is excellent with no rust or pitting.
All the furniture, with the exception of the ramrod, is original and in excellent condition.
This musket is sure to be the pride and joy of any shooter or reenactor. Tom Nixon guns are of the highest quality and hard to find. Don't miss out on this one.
