Description

This original M1879 "Trapdoor" rifle is in good shape and is all correct and original. The stock has a great look and color; indicating that it was never re-finished. The original inspectors cartouche is still visible on the left side.

The lock holds solid on all three positions. The lock plate has a nice patina with much of its original blued finish beginning to "plum". The lock plate stamps are crisp and legible. The breech block shows some great color case hardening.

The barrel is in good shape with no rust and great bluing throughout. The breech block is stamped 1873, which is correct for this rifle made in early 1882; as all blocks made before mid 1884 were stamped "U.S. Model 1873". A good, legible VP and EAGLE is stamped into the breech. The m1879 rear sight is intact and in good working order, and the original front sight is in great condition.

The bore is excellent! - shiny with crisp rifling. The block locks up tight and the extractor functions perfectly.

All the furniture is original and in good shape, including the cleaning rod.
