Here's an interesting Krag "carbine". This original M1898 Krag was built-up by a previous owner to represent the M1896 Krag Carbines carried by Teddy Roosevelt's "Rough Riders". In fact, the gun was made using all original 1896 Krag parts, including the stock, hand guard, saddle bar, and rear sight.
This carbine is in excellent condition and features a brand new Criterion barrel, that was custom made to match the original taper and length of the original 1896 carbine. As a result, the bore is excellent with beautifully-sharp rifling.
The action is very good with buttery-smooth bolt and a solid lock up. The serial number on the receiver dates this gun to 1899, meaning it will need to be shipped to Federal Firearms License holder for transfer. Never bought a gun through an FFL before? The stock is original and came off of an original 1896 carbine as evidenced by its visible inspector's cartouches on both the left counterpane and bottom of the wrist. The stock is in very good condition with no cracks, chips or damage. The handguard is also correct for the 1896 carbine and matches the stock.
The front and rear sights are both original and unmodified.
This carbine is the perfect choice for the shooter, reenactor, or collector who wants to add the famous "Rough Riders" Krag carbine to their collection without the hefty pricetag of an original M1896. This gun would be an excellent choice for a shooter as its Criterion match-grade barrel is sure to make it a tack-driver!
