Description
This beautiful pair of French pistols was built as a matched set in the mid 18th Century. Pistols like these were popular for wealthy travelers and coachmen who needed protection from highwaymen. Their flared blunderbuss-style barrels made reloading while on horseback easier.
These pistols were originally built as flintlocks, but were neatly converted to percussion in the mid 19th Century. Both the quality of the conversion work combined with pistol's condition indicate that this pair was highly prized by its multiple owners over the years.
The pistols are nicely embellished with beautiful relief carving around the tang. Both locks are in excellent working condition with solid half and full cocks.
The stocks are very nice with no cracks or chips missing. Both ram rods are original and in good condition.
The bores on both pistols are very good with no major rust or pitting.
