This Colt M1861 Special musket is in absolutely outstanding condition. It is easily in the "Top 3" nicest Colts we've ever had!. The excellent condition of this musket can't be overstated. It features beautifully crisp edges and excellent markings!

This Colt is all original from top to bottom. It is an early-production gun and features a barrel date of 1862 and a lock of 1863; indicating that it is all original and correct (muskets with barrel and lock dates that are within one year of each other are considered to be all correct, as the the components were likely produced as one fiscal year ended and another began). It is all correct with no replacement parts. The stock is in exceptional condition with no cracks or chips, or any damage to speak of. The lock panels are wonderfully crisp; indicating that this stock was never sanded or refinished. The stock features an "NJ" cartouche, which matches another "NJ" stamped on the barrel; indicating that this Colt was sold directly to the state of New Jersey during the War.

The lock is in great shape with fantastic markings. The action of the lock is very crisp with a reliable half and full cock.

The barrel is excellent and features a fantastic bore with no rust or pitting and beautiful rifling. Both front and rear sights are intact and functional.

The furniture is all original and matching. Both swivels are intact and move freely. The ramrod is full length.

This iconic musket would be a perfect addition to any collection; and it's grade A condition makes it impossible to upgrade.
