Here's an awesome original Colt with a desirable 1858 production serial number. These pocket pistols were extremely popular "private purchase" weapons with both the Union and the Confederacy; to the point that the 1849 Colt is the most commonly encountered weapon found in original posed studio portraits of Civil War soldiers.

This Colt is in excellent shape; especially considering it's date of manufacture. The lock up is nice and tight with no wobble in the cylinder. The action is as smooth as butter-it feels better than most Italian reproductions! The hammer has a positive half and full cock.

The barrel is in excellent condition. The Colt address stamp is intact and fully legible, and traces of the original vibrant factory bluing are visible in the protected areas. The bore is very nice with excellent, sharp rifling and some isolated areas of minor surface rust. This revolver would make for a fantastic shooter!! The cylinder matches the barrel in condition. Each one of the chambers is crisp and clean with no major pitting or erosion. The serial number number is clearly visible on the cylinder and matches the rest of the gun’s numbers. The original cylinder scene is fully intact and visible!

Traces of original color case hardening can still be seen on the frame and loading lever; particularly in the protected areas.

The grips retain a majority of their original Colt factory varnish and appear to show some crudely-engraved initials cut into them by their original owner (see photos). The back strap and trigger guard retain an overwhelming majority of their original silver plating which has tarnished to a natural black with age.

This Pocket would be a perfect addition to anyone's collection with it's pre- Civil War production date and shootable condition, this Colt is a collector's dream!
