This custom Colt First Model Richards conversion was recently finished by renowned pistolsmith Kenny Howell. Kenny has a long standing reputation as the premier gunsmith for the finest, most historically accurate percussion conversion pistols to ever be reproduced and this Richards Conversion is no exception.
Kenny's custom-converted revolvers are true copies of the original guns from which they were replicated; and, unlike the Italian "conversions" Kenny's pistols are actually converted from operational percussion revolvers using a number of custom made parts; including an entirely newly machined cylinder, conversion ring, and ejector housing.
Additionally, Kenny's first model Richards is the only reproduction first model currently on the market. Until Kenny started producing them, the only reproduction "Richards" available was Uberti's Second Model Richards, which features a hammer-mounted firing pin and is actually quite a bit larger than the original Colt conversions.
This first model was originally built by Kenny in 1996 and remains in excellent condition. It is a perfect copy of the original Richards conversion and features a recoil shield-mounted firing pin just like the originals. It is chambered in .44 Colt, again, just like the original guns and features a .429 barrel liner to allow the gun to be shot without having to load heeled bullets.
As an added bonus, this pistol features all the correct Colt barrel markings; as it originally started life as a Colt Second Generation M1860 Army. It also features correct finishes, as Kenny bone-charcoal color cased hardened the frame and hammer and blued the cylinder and barrel.
We purchased this pistol from the gun's original owner, who obviously took excellent care of it - only shooting occasionally. As a result, it is mechanically excellent with a perfect, crisp action and a sold lock up. The bore and chambers are all in excellent condition; meaning this gun should be a real tack driver at the firing range.
Kenny is no longer taking orders to convert pistols, so these Custom Colts will become increasingly more difficult to obtain. Don't wait on this piece!
