Here's a great example of a well known, but seldom reproduced rifle. While most are aware of the famous half stock rifles built by Hawken in St. Louis, few are aware that the firm also offered full stock rifles as well. In fact, out of all the manufacturers currently reproducing Hawken rifles, not a single one offers a full stock rifle.
This rifle is a faithful reproduction of the famous Full Stock Hawken. It was made from the highest quality American-made parts, and includes not one, but TWO L&R locks - one percussion, and one flintlock. This rifle can easily be converted from percussion to flint by simply removing the lock, unscrewing the nipple drum, screwing in the included touch hole liner, and then installing the flintlock. This gives the user no shortage of flexibility and makes this rifle appropriate for any even from the 1810s all the way up through the 1890s!
Both locks are in excellent condition. Both hold solid on both full and half cock, and the flintlock throws a nice shower of sparks with ever pull of the trigger.
It is stocked in an absolutely stunning piece of highly figured maple. The stock is very nicely shaped with only one or two minor handling marks and no cracks or splits.
The set triggers function correctly.
The .54 caliber rifled barrel is excellent with crisp rifling and or rust or pitting.
This completely custom, 100% American-made piece would be a fine addition to anyone's collection.
