Description

This beautiful flint pistol is custom built using all American-made parts. The beautiful figured maple stock was carved from a blank-not a kit and evidence of the builder's craftsmanship is evident everywhere. All the inletting is tight with no gaps. The curvature of the handle allows the gun to point very naturally-something uncommon for a flintlock pistol.

The .36 caliber, rifled barrel features an attractive "swamped" profile typical of rifled guns from the 18th Century. The barrel is in beautiful condition inside and out and features a nicely-browned finish which was intentionally aged to give the pistol the look of a piece that has spent years as a trusty sidearm. The bore is very good with sharp rifling and no major rust or pitting - this pistol would be an excellent shooter! Ignition is provided by an L&R "Late English" Lock which features a gooseneck cock and waterproof pan. This lock was copied off of the original import locks were popular on English sporting rifles and high quality American arms in the 1820s and 1830s, including the famous Hawken; making it the perfect choice for this early 19th Century American Kentucky Pistol. L&R locks are Amercian-made and hand assembled and tuned - considered to be the gold standard in terms of quality and reliability and this lock is no exception; featuring a reliable half and full cock, and a good shower of sparks with a sharp flint.
