Description

The M1879 "Patria" Rolling block rifle was made by Remington in the U.S. as part of a contract for the Argentinian military. These rifles featured fine rear ladder sights which were a near identical copy of the sights used on the Austrian Werndl (Argentina, like much of South American was strongly influenced by German military developments during the final decades of the 19th Century). The muzzle of the barrel includes a sabre bayonet lug fitted to its right side and, and the barrel itself is secured to its fore stock via three screw-retained barrel bands. The breech end also sports a 2.25 inch octagonal knoxform with "Modello Argentino. 1879 E.N." stamped on it (E.N.= Ejercito Nacional, i.e.National Army) and three line Remington patent markings on the tang.

These guns were chambered in .43 Spanish and have garnered a reputation with modern collectors for their quality construction and surprising accuracy. This particular has been built up for 1000 yd shooting via the addition of a custom Vernier sight made by Montana Vintage Arms.

This Argentine rifle is in excellent condition. It is all original and features excellent bluing on all steel components.

Both front and rear sights are intact and in excellent condition. The bore is in great shape. The rifling is wonderfully crisp and shiny with no rust or pitting.

The Remington stamps on the tang are good and legible The hammer holds solid on both full and half cock. The lock up of the receiver is wonderfully solid with no slop or play.

The stocks are both is great shape with a few minor handling marks and no cracks of chips. All the furniture is original and matching.
