Description

The very few original Rappahannock Forge muskets that survive represent the pinnacle of American industrial production during the Revolutionary War. Protected from British raids by geography, the complex built by James Hunter outside of Fredericksburg, Virginia had just about everything needed to mass produce the weapons needed by the Patriot cause. The British "Brown Bess" served as the prototype for the Rappahannock Forge muskets, which are among the first ever to have been completely "made in America." Original Rapa Forge muskets are found stock in either walnut or Maple, and generally feature Brown Bess style furniture; although some deviations from this rule have been noted.

This particular musket is a faithful recreation of the original Rappahannock guns. It was stock from a blank of curly maple just like many of the originals. The stock is in great shape with no cracks or splits.

The lock plate and cock are flat like the original Rapa Forge guns. The lock plate is engraved just like the original and the action of the lock is smooth with sturdy half and full cock. The frizzen spring is nice and crisp and the lock sparks well.

The barrel has some light surface rust inside and out that should easily clean up with a little elbow grease.

The furniture is mostly comprised of Brown Bess style components with a custom side plate style after many of the original pieces still in existence

This musket would be ideal for any reenactor or shooter who wants something a little different without having to sacrifice historical accuracy.
