Here is a beautiful English 10 gauge shotgun made by well known gun maker John Waters. Waters worked from 1767 to 1810 and provided arms for both the British military and the civilian market. He is most famous for developing the "spring-bayonet" - the folding bayonet which was affixed to the barrels of both pistols and blunderbusses; which could be automatically deployed via a heavy spring and a small switch. The styling of this particular shotgun dates it between 1790-1810. It was professionally restored back to shooting condition; thanks to the addition of a custom fit L&R lock.
This flintlock shotgun is in excellent condition. It features a beautiful lightly figured English walnut stock featuring beautiful sharp checkering at the wrist with no cracks, chips or other damage. An ebony stock tip adorns the end of the stock; and the length of pull is about 14", making this light weight gun very comfortable for modern-sized shooters.
A custom L&R lock has been neatly fit into the lock mortise to provide, fast reliable ignition. As such, the cock holds solid on both full and half cock and the the frizzen spring is very crisp. The flint throws a very nice spark with every pull of the trigger.
The 33" octagon-to-round barrel features a beautifully twist pattern. A hooked breech secures the barrel solidly to the tang; which is lightly engraved with some English-style scroll work and two Gold bands at the breech. A full length solid rib is securely fastened to the bottom of the barrel; holding in place an original hickory ram rod. The bore is very nice with no major rust or pitting. This gun has been very meticulously cared for over the last 200+ years!
The furniture is all intact and in good condition; and is decorated with the same scroll engraving as the tang.
This beautiful smoothbore is in fantastic condition; and very shootable - thanks to its lightning-fast L&R lock. It is very well balanced and lightweight. This is a gun that was meant to be carried all day long!
Included with this gun are all of the necessary wads needed for shooting, including roughly 100 vegetable fiber 10 gauge wads and 100 "overshot" cards. All that's needed is some shot and powder and this gun is ready for the field once again!
