This Colt M1861 Special musket is in absolutely outstanding condition. It is not only the finest condition Colt we've ever offered, it is the finest condition musket in general. The excellent condition of this musket can't be overstated. I have never used the term "unfired" in reference to an antique gun before, but this Colt shows no evidence of ever having been shot - the threads of the nipple still have whale oil in them (there's no mistaking the distinctive smell of whale oil - collectors of antiques tend to become very acquainted with it!).

This Colt is all original from top to bottom. It is all correct with no replacement parts, and features matching dates on both the barrel and lock. The stock is in exceptional condition with no cracks or chips, or any damage to speak of. The lock panels are wonderfully crisp; indicating that this stock was never sanded or refinished.

The lock is in great shape with fantastic markings. The action of the lock is very crisp with a reliable half and full cock.

The barrel is excellent and features a fantastic bore with no rust or pitting and beautiful rifling. Both front and rear sights are intact and functional.

The furniture is all original and matching. Both swivels are intact and move freely. The ramrod is full length.

This iconic musket would be a perfect addition to any collection; and it's grade A condition makes it impossible to upgrade.
