Description

Here's a great Hewes and Phillips conversion of the M1816 Whickham musket. This musket is in good condition; and although its been shortened by roughly 6" it would make a great choice for a reenactor.

The lock is in great shape with faint but legible markings and a smooth even patina. The hammer holds solid on both full and half cock.

The stock is very nice with crisp edges and nice State of New Jersey stamps. The stock and barrel have been shortened roughly 6"; and the front band has been neatly reinletted. The work is quite clean and possibly performed by an arsenal. The nose cap is secured with a single screw, similar to the smoothbore guns reworked by the Confederates at the Macon Armory. This makes this gun a good choice for both CS and Union impressions.

The barrel features a replacement nipple and cleanout screw making it ready for use. The original rear sight is intact although both leaves are missing. The bore is dark and dirty.

The furniture is all original including the ramrod.

This is a great original musket for nearly half the price of a comparable Italian reproduction!
