This First Model Harper's Ferry is all original and all complete and remains in excellent condition. It features all correct and matching Harper's Ferry parts in accordance with John Willyard's excellent book, U.S. Model 1855 Series of Small Arms, making it a fairly rare musket; as Harper's Ferry M1855s are generally associated with Confederate use as the majority of the arms that survived the arsenal fire in April, 1861 were captured by the South.
The stock is in above average condition with no major cracks or chips and no burnout whatsoever. The lock panels are wonderfully crisp; indicating that this stock was never sanded or refinished.
The lock is in great shape with legible markings as well as an intact and functional tape primer system. The action of the lock is very crisp with a reliable half and full cock.
The barrel is in excellent condition with very crisp proof marks and a matching 1858 tang date to match the lock. The bore is in excellent shape with no rust or pitting and both front and rear sights are intact and in good condition; although a "peep hole" was drilled into the slide of the rear sight at some point.
The furniture is all original and matching. Both swivels are intact and move freely. The ramrod is full length and original.
This iconic Confederate musket would be a perfect addition to any collection; and it's grade A condition would even make it a fantastic shooter.
