Here's a great First Model Maynard for a shooter or collector. This carbine is in good, shootable condition, and has had some recent "restoration" work by Larry Romano to make it ready for the shooting range. The action is nice and tight with a solid half and full cock. The barrel cams positively and locks up nicely against the receiver. The flash hole is nice and tight; although slightly oblong. The markings on the receiver are faint, but legible.
The original barrel is full length and lined to .36 caliber by Bob Hoyt. The rear tang sight appears to be original, while the front sight is a "tall shooter" replacement which was installed for point of aim shooting at 50 yds. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no rust or pitting.
The butt stock is solid with no cracks, chips, or other major damage.
Included with this carbine is a spare .36 caliber barrel made by the Romano Rifle Co.
This Maynard is a great representative sample of a good Civil War carbine-a great choice for any collection.
