Robert Hannahs operated a gun shop called "The House of Hawken" In Kenosha, WI from the mid 1960s until sometime in the early 1990s. As one might surmise from the name, Hannahs specialized in building custom replicas of the weapons made by the famous Hawken Brothers of St. Louis. Hannahs was considered one of the pioneers of the Hawken craze that purveyed the mid 20th Century muzzleloading scene; and helped to make "Hawken" a household name which is as well-known today as it was more than 150 years ago. Hannahs' Hawken replicas were known for their to historical accuracy as well as their shooting accuracy; thanks to Hannahs' use of custom-hand shaped curly maple stocks, and top quality components like Douglas barrels and L&R locks.
This particular pistol is a testament to Hannahs' skill. This Hawken pistol was produced by Hannahs in the early 1980s. and is a faithful copy of the exceedingly rare Hawken pistol
It features a percussion lock which appears to have been made by L&R. The lock works flawlessly with an excellent full and half cock
The gun was stocked in an attractive piece of figured maple which is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or other damage to speak of. A poured pewter nose cap adorns the tip of the stock; the same decoration found on original Hawkens.
This pistol is part of a three barreled set which include a .58 caliber barrel, a .54 caliber barrel, and a .62 caliber barrel. Each of the barrels was made by H & H Barrel Co. and feature excellent rifled bores with crisp rifling and no rust or pitting. Each barrel also includes a full rib and fully functioning captured ram rod; allowing each barrel to be easily swapped out without the need to carry additional tools.
This completely custom, 100% American-made piece has also been test-fired. We were very pleased with its accuracy (see photos)!
