Here's a great Springfield 1816 for the collector on a budget. This Model 1816 was converted to percussion using the Belgian, or "cone-in-barrel" method.

The lock is in great shape with a nice, chocolate patina and good, legible stamps. The lock holds solid on both full and half cock.

The stock is in good condition with some minor wood loss around the lock mortise, as well as a repaired crack in the forestock (see photos). Good legible inspector's cartouches can be found on the left counterpane of the stock; a testament to the fact that this muskt was never sanded or refinished.

The barrel is full length and features great stamps. The nipple is mutilated from years of use, so this musket would best be relegated as a display piece. The bore is dark with heavy rust and pitting throughout.

All the furniture is original including the ramrod. Both swivels are intact and movable. The front band is missing its sight blade and there is a small crack in one of the "straps" of the front band.

This musket is a great choice for collector; Bargain-priced at about half of the cost of a Pedersoli reproduction.
