Description
The M1836 Cavalry pistol has the distinction of being the last flintlock pistol the US government ever made. These large .54 caliber hand cannons saw extensive service in the Mexican-American War, as well as the Civil War.
This particular '36 is in great shape and was made by Johnson. The stock is very crisp indicating that is was never refinished.
The lock was converted to percussion via the "cone-in-barrel", or "belgian" conversion sometime in the 1850's. The hammer holds solid on both full and half cock and the markings on the lock plate are crisp and legible.
The barrel is full length and in good shape with no rust or pitting. The bore has some scattered surface rust.
The furniture is all intact and functional.
