The M1842 Cavalry pistol is considered by many collectors to be the most attractive looking single shot pistol to ever be issued by the U.S. armed forces. It's graceful stock architecture and brass furniture compliment the beefy steel lock and barrel. It is an excellent blend of form and function. This particular piece is a fine representative of the M1842's simplistic beauty as it is all original and in excellent condition.

The stock is in great shape with no cracks or chips. The lock panels are wonderfully crisp and both inspectors cartouches are still visible on the left side lock panel. The lock holds solid on both full and half cock. The lock has no pitting and the lock plate stamps are wonderfully crisp and legible - a rare feature for most M1842's, whose lock plates featured very fine detailed markings that often became obscured with age and wear.

The barrel is full length and and features beautiful, crisp stamps at the breech. The captured ramrod is original and functional - another rare feature among M1842 pistols. The furniture is all original and matching.

The bore is good with some light scattered pitting throughout, but no major damage or wear that would impact accuracy.

This pistol has a lot of potential for use in reenacting or target shooting; you'd be hard pressed to find a nice example than this in this price range!
