The Lindsay M1863 "Double Rifle" or "Lindsay Two-Shot" as its known to collectors, is one of the Civil War's most well known rare rifles. Only 1000 of these unique "superposed load" rifles were manufactured, and production was ceased after complaints were received from the troops that the guns were difficult to load and often exploded when both charges were accidentally detonated at the same time during the heat of battle.
Like most Lindsay Two-Shots, this one is in excellent condition. The stock is very good with crisp lock moldings and wonderful cartouches - an indicator that the wood has never been refinished.
Both hammers lock up solidly on half cock, and release one at a time with two successive pulls of the trigger.
The barrel is full length and in excellent condition inside and out. The bore is excellent sharp rifling and no rust or pitting.
The furniture is original and in good condition.
