Here's a great Starr percussion carbine. These carbine were immensely popular during the war and generally well liked by the Union Cavalry (once the ordnance department made proper ammunition for it).

This carbine is all original. The stocks are in great shape with no cracks or splits; which seems to be a rarity for a Starr - a many have chipped out toes at the bottoms of their butt plates. There is a very legible inspector's cartouches on the wrist.

The lock has a great, mottled patina with no rust or pitting. The markings on the lock are crisp and legible. The hammer holds solid on both half and full cock.

The mechanics of the breech block are nice and smooth. The block locks up solid with no wobble or play. The face of the block is in great shape with no major pitting.

The barrel is full length and all the markings are legible. The barrel still retains some of its original blued finish, particularly in the protected areas. Both the front and rear sights are original.

The bore is very good with very sharp rifling and some minor scattered pits throughout.

This Starr would be a great shooter or collector's piece.
