Here's a great-looking M1864 Joslyn Carbine in nice shape. All original from top to bottom, this carbine still retains all of its original stamps and a large percentage of original finish.
The lock is in great shape and holds solid on both full and half cock. The lock stamps are all crisp and legible and the lock plate has a great patina with no rust.
The breech block is in great condition with good markings and no rust, pitting, or damage. The lock up is nice and tight with no wiggle. The firing pin is in good shape; movable with no damage.
The barrel is in great shape inside and out. Both front and rear sights are original and unmodified. A majority of the original blued finish can be seen on the barrel. The rifling is strong - mostly shiny with only very minor pitting.
All the hardware is original and matching with no rust or pitting.
The stock is in great shape with no cracks, chips, or splits and only a few minor handling marks. All the edges are nice and crisp indicating that the stock was never refinished.
This carbine would be a great addition to any collector's arsenal. This odd-looking little rifle is an excellent example of the Civil War's experimentation with self contained cartridges. Unusual-looking designs like the Joslyn eventually evolved into the sleek and simple designs of the 20th century.
