This original M1878 "Trapdoor" rifle is in good shape and all original. The stock has a great look and color, and the original inspectors cartouche is still visible on the left side.
The lock holds solid on all three positions. The lock plate has a nice patina with much of its original blued finish beginning to "plum". The lock plate stamps are crisp and legible. The breech block shows some silver traces of faded color case hardening.
The barrel is in good shape with no rust or pitting and nice original bluing throughout. A good, legible VP and EAGLE is stamped into the breech. The model 1878 rear sight is intact and in good working order, and the original front sight is in great condition.
The bore is very nice with crisp rifling and no pitting. The block locks up tight and the extractor functions perfectly.
All the furniture is original and in good shape.
Included with this rifle is an original sling, bayonet, scabbard; all fit the rifle perfectly and match very well.
