Here's an all original M1842 Springfield that has a great patina and includes a matching bayonet.

The lock is marked very legibly with a mottled patina and even pitting. The hammer holds solid on half and full cock. The barrel matches the lock in patina and condition and is still full length. The breech section of the barrel shows a faint viewed-and-proofed "VP" stamp, but the eagle-head and date stamp are not visible. The bore shows is dark and shows considerable rust and pitting throughout.

The stock displays a nice color and patina. The wrist was broken at some point and shows an old repair. Despite this, the stock is quite sound, although the repair is starting to show some separation.

The furniture is all original including the ram rod.

This is a great piece with nice evidence of war time usage that's still in very usable condition. All for a the price of what a defarbed Italian reproduction sells for!
