The Smith & Wesson Model 3 Schofield is quite famous in pop culture; despite the fact that only 9,000 of these guns were produced. The gun is featured prominently in everything from movies to video games; making these rare guns highly sought after by collectors. The Schofield proved to be so iconic, that Navy Arms founder Val Forgett contracted with Uberti Replicas in the 1990's to produce a near perfect copy of Smith & Wesson's famous pistol. The Navy Arms Schofield's have become collectible in and of themselves, making the Schofield accessible for the average shooter that doesn't want to spend $5,000+ for an original.
This particular reproduction Schofield is one Navy Arms replicas made by Uberti. The guns made for Navy Arms were built under the direct supervision of Val Forgett - Navy Arm's founder and the "Father of Replica Firearms". Forgett earned the title after years of working with the Italian firearms industry to recreate reproductions of some history's most famous weapons, including the LeMat Revolver, the Model 1860 Henry Rifle, and the Model 3 Schofield. Forgett was known to work directly with the the companies that made his reproductions to insure both quality and historical accuracy. Unfortunately, Forgett passed away in 2002, and the company was re-organized in 2007, dropping most of the reproduction guns from their line up.
The majority of the guns that Val Forgett helped produce are still in production by the Italian firearms manufacturers. However, without the guidance and supervision of Val Forgett, many of the current versions of Forgett's replicas are of noticeably lower quality than their Navy Arms-marked predecessors. For this reason, "Navy Arms" - marked replicas have become quite desirable among collectors and shooters; renowned for their quality construction and historical accuracy.
This particular Schofield is chambered in .45 Colt (.45LC) and is a shining example of the type of quality that Forgett demanded from the manufacturers that built his replicas. It is is near new condition, and sports an expert level of finish with beautiful bluing that exhibits none of the rounded off corners or waviness that more recently made guns show.
Mechanically, this pistol is in excellent condition with a wonderfully crisp action that was expertly timed and set up by a master crafstman.
Internally this gun shows very little, if any signs of use; as the bore an chambers all shine like a mirror with no rust or pitting anywhere.
This handsome pistol is as close to new as it gets, and is the very definition of the phrase "they don't make them like they used to". Dixie Gunworks sells the Uberti Schofield for $1250.00, making this desirable, near mint Navy Arms-marked pistol a real bargain at a full $150.00 less than msrp!
