Here's a beautiful 1885 "High Wall" made by the Ballard Rifle & Cartridge Co. in Cody Wyoming. This completely custom, American-made rifle is a perfect copy of Winchester's famous Model 1885 "High Wall" and features loads of custom features. Starting from the top, this 1885 features features a match-grade 32" Chrome Moly #4 weight Octagon tapered barrel made by Badger Barrels with a Chrome Moly . It's chambered in .45-70 with a 1:18 twist, and finished in a traditional "rust blue" finish.
The receiver, block, lever, and butt plate have been Bone-Charcoal Color Case hardened - the same finish used on original Winchesters. The color case hardened is in excellent condition, and the whole gun is about mint and appears unfired. The action is fitted with a factory single-set trigger and works perfectly.
The stocks are cut from premium figured walnut and are beautifully fit and hand finished. The stock show now blemishes or damage. A beautiful Ebony stock tips adorns the forestock.
Installed on the tang is Montana Vintage Arms Soule long range peep sight. The barrel features a standard buckhorn ladder. This gun is all set up for long range sillouhette shooting and will be capable of 1000 yd shots!
This rifle was originally ordered in 2012. It's original owner was only able to test fire the gun before he unfortunately passed-away. As a result, this rifle is in near new condition.
The lock and block are mechanically flawless; with tight lock ups and crisp springs. The block locks up tight with no gaps or wiggle.
The barrel is beautiful inside and out. The bluing is just very good and the bore is excellent - about mint with sharps rifling and no rust or pitting. Externally, all the steel hardware is in great shape with no damage.
The Ballard Rifle and Cartridge Co. closed in 2014, making this premium, near mint rifle a real rarity. As an all American-made, custom rifle, this 1885 original retailed for more than $4,500.00. This rifle is being offered in like-new condition for a full thousand dollars less than retail, and it's in stock and ready to ship. Don't wait on this one!
