This robust flintlock pistol is all original and a veteran of the Revolutionary War. The 1756/1777 Sea Service pistol was adopted by the Royal Navy in 1756. The pattern remained unchanged for more than twenty years until the lock was modified slightly (the length of the sear spring was shortened) in 1777. These guns are characterized by their long 12" barrels and .56 caliber bores. The pattern would be updated again almost immediately after the Revolution to include and shorter barrel and different side plate; making these pistols iconic players in the War for Independence. Author George C. Neumann listed the 1756/1777 Sea Service pistol in his outstanding book Battle Weapons of the American Revolution; as having been used by both sides of the conflict.

This particular pistol is outstanding, museum-quality condition; and is easily the nicest example we've ever seen!

The lock is in its original flintlock configuration (it is NOT a reconversion like most 18th Century flint pistols). It features beautifully crisp markings and sharp "double line border" engraving typical of British military flintlocks. Mechanically, this pistol is in excellent condition with a beautifully crisp half and full cock and a crisp frizzen spring. This is one of the few 18th Century guns that could still be shot!

The stock is also very good with no cracks or splits, and a crisp "beaver-tail" tang molding.

The barrel is full length and the bore is very good with only minor rust from storage and no major pitting.

The furniture is all original, including the belt hook; which is often missing from these guns.

This fantastic Sea Service pistol is sure to be the crown jewel of anyone's Early Naval/Revolutionary War collection. Don't sleep on this one! Eighteenth Century pieces in this condition don't come up very often!
