This handsome 16 gauge shot guns was marketed by Remington as a the "Rolling Block Shotgun No. 2". The No. 2 shotguns were offered from 1875-1892. This is the second series of shotguns marketed by Remington in the late 19th Century. The first being the No. 1 chambered in 20 gauge with a military style butt stock, and this one; a No. 2 with shotgun-style butt stock, available in either 16 or 20 gauge. Both the No. 1 and No. 2 were built by Remington using surplus military actions.
This particular No. 2 is in great condition. The bore is in great shape with some scattered rust and no major pitting. The stock are both solid with nor cracks or splits.
The action functions as it should and the hammer holds solid on both half and cock. The firing pin is in good shape.
