This 18th Century musket is a true piece of Revolutionary War history. In fact, an identical piece is listed in George Neumann's Battle Weapons of the American Revolution as having been imported by the Continental Army for use in the American War for Independence.
Neumann describes this musket as being of Dutch manufacture; as several specimens have been found with "KULENBURG" engraved on the lock plate - an apparent reference to the Culemborg Manufactory in Amsterdam.
It shows a mixture of both Central European and Germanic design influences; which make for a graceful, yet robust military weapon.
From a collector's standpoint, it remains in excellent condition, featuring a very nice stock with no cracks or major damage.
The lock, like many 18th Century guns, has been converted to percussion. Despite this, the lock remains in good mechanical condition with a solid full and half cock and crisp action.
The barrel is full length with an even brown patina and a dark bore.
The furniture is all original and in great condition. The ram rod if full length and appears to be original to the gun.
