The Smith & Wesson Model 1 1/2 Single Action Revolver was the last iteration of Smith & Wesson's "Model 1 1/2" series of revolvers. Originally introduced in 1865, the Model 1 1/2 series of pistols were .32 caliber; intended to combine the small size and convenience of the .22 caliber Model 1 with the larger caliber of the 6-shot "belt sized" Model 2, which was introduced in 1861. The "Model 1 1/2 Single Action" was the last model, or "issue" of the Model 1 1/2 series, with the previous two issues of the gun featuring "tip-up" barrels and chambered in .32 rimfire. The Model 1 1/2 Single Action Revolvers differs from its two predecessor substantially by breaking at the top (just in front of the hammer), consistent with the design of the Safety Hammerless or S&W .38 Single Action. It can be also be distinguished from the first two issues by its lack of ejector rod under the barrel, the large hinge in front of, and just below the barrel, and the extractor that ejects spent cartridges when the barrel is hinged downward. The grip is rounded at the butt, and is similar in appearance to that on the 2nd Issue. This revolver marked the debut of the .32 S&W centerfire cartridge and was produced from 1878 to 1892.
This particular example is in excellent shape with a crisp action and is chambered in the popular .32 "short" centerfire cartridge.
This revolver remains in excellent condition with about 95% of its original nickel plating present on the frame and cylinder and barrel, and vibrant color case hardening on the hammer.
Mechanically, this little pistol is flawless - the cylinder locks up nicely and the hammer locks back nicely on full cock (these break-open pocket pistols didn't have a half cock.). The chambers are in great shape with some light "freckling" but no real rust or pitting.
The lock up between the barrel and the receiver is tight with no side-to-side play. The bore is good with sharp, crisp rifling.
The original hard rubber grips are in excellent condition. This revolver is in great shape and would make for an excellent addition to anyone's vest pocket.
