Description
This unique looking shotgun is actually a Burnside carbine which was heavily modified after the war for civilian usage by removing the breech block and most of the receiver section, threading a breech plug into the barrel, installing a percussion drum, mounting a ramrod holder and then finally remounting both the stock and lock. The finished product is a very lightweight and handing smooth bore percussion carbine. percussion alterations of breech loading carbines were common after the war as cartridges for the various models; especially Burnsides, were not readily available on the civilian market. This is by far the most "involved" percussion alteration we've ever seen and should make for a very interesting "study piece" for any carbine enthusiast.
The carbine is in very good shape. The lock holds solid on both full and half cock. The original Burnside lock markings are still present and legible.
The stock is in good shape with no cracks or splits. The rear stock swivel is missing.
The smooth bore barrel is good with no major pitting.
