Description
On November 3, 1893 Sweden adopted the 6.5x55mm cartridge. Following this, the Swedes chose the Mauser design based rifle to shoot this round. The "Swedish Mauser" as it is known to collectors, were manufactured by one of three companies: Mauser, Oberndorf am Neckar, Germany; Carl Gustafs Gevärsfaktoriet, Eskskilstuna, Sweden (Carl Gustaf's City Rifle Factory) and Husqvarna Vapenfabriks AB, Husqvarna, Sweden. Production began in 1894 with 52 prototype carbines and continued uninterrupted at Carl Gustaf from 1898 to 1925 and intermittently into the 1930s. Production was resumed in 1941 at Husqvarna and ended in 1944. Production at the Mauser factory took place from 1895-1896 (m/94 carbines) and again between 1896-1900 when rifles only were manufactured. The Swedish Mausers were offered in three variants, an infantry rifle, a "short rifle" and a carbine.
This particular 1894 carbine is a very early production made in 1895; meaning that it is classified as an antique and can be shipped directly to your door without the need for an FFL transfer (in most states - check your local laws). It is all correct and original It features a beautiful stock with no damage other than a small repair to the bottom of the butt stock (see photos).
The "Swedish Mauser" was famously smooth and well made, and this gun is no exemption. The action of the bolt is smooth and crisp with no wear or damage to the lugs.
The magazine is intact and functional; with a crisp magazine spring.
The bluing is excellent with no rust and only a few light spots on the edges and corners.
The barrel is full length with a good bore. The rifling is nice with some minor "frost pitting" throughout.
