Description

This original 3rd model Burnside carbine is in great shape with a beautiful patina. These early Burnsides are rare and and differ greatly from the 4th and 5th models with block guide screws and double hinged blocks. These carbines were issued in large numbers early in the war.

The stock is sound with no cracks or splits and several of the typical dents and scratches that one would expect to find on a combat arm. The lock functions perfectly with a nice crisp lock up on both full and half cock. The lock plate stamps are crisp and legible. The receiver and barrel have a nice patina with no rust or pitting. Both front and rear sights are present and unmodified. The bore is in great shape strong rifling and only a little light pitting in the grooves. The breech block and receiver lock up tightly and neither has any corrosion or pitting.

This is an excellent example of an extremely rare carbine. This is only the fourth 3rd model Burnside that we've had the opportunity to sell in the last 10 years.
