Description
Here's a great Starr percussion carbine. These carbine were immensely popular during the war and generally well liked by the Union Cavalry (once the ordnance department made proper ammunition for it).
This carbine is all original. The stocks are in great shape with no cracks or splits; except for a small two chip which was neatly repaired long ago with two brass tacks to keep it in place. There are two very legible inspector's cartouches on the wrist.
The lock has a great, smooth patina with no rust or pitting. The markings on the lock are crisp and legible. The hammer holds solid on both half and full cock.
The mechanics of the breech block are nice and smooth. The block locks up solid with no wobble or play. The face of the block is in great shape with no major pitting.
The barrel is full length and all the markings are legible. The barrel still retains its original blued finish. Both the front and rear sights are original and in great shape.
The bore is very good with very sharp rifling and some scattered pits throughout.
This Starr would be a great shooter or collector's piece.
