Description

Here's an awesome Whitney M1816 conversion in excellent, untouched condition. As a one of the country's largest private arsenals, Whitney won several contracts to supply state militias with military arms. This particular M1816 is one of 300 built for the state of Massachusetts by the Connecticut arsenal.

The lock is in great shape with a nice, chocolate patina and great markings. The lock holds solid on both full and half cock.

The stock is in excellent shape with no cracks or splits. The lock panels are wonderfully sharp and the original inspectors cartouches are still present and legible.

The barrel is full length and features great stamps, including an original date stamp on the tang - a rare feature for an 1816. The "bolster" around the nipple is in great shape, without any of the major pitting or corrosion seen on other conversion muskets. The bore is very good no major rust or pitting.

All the furniture is original including the ramrod.
