This Pedersoli M1816 has been fully defarbed by Steve Krolick. Steve has reworked every inch of this musket to be a near perfect copy of the original Harper's Ferry M1816s.
Steve started by remarking the date on the lock. Pedersoli originally marked the lock with an "1816" date, which is not historically accurate at all. Steve carefully removed the original date from the tail of the lock and restamped it with the correct date of 1820. Steve also tuned the lock to provide a wonderfully hot and consistent spark, making this flintlock extremely reliable.
Steve continued with the stock. He re-shaped the whole stock, paying particular attention the the wrist, lock panels, and forend. He also stamped the proper cartouches on the lock panel before staining and lightly antiquing the stock.
The work was continued with the barrel. The original Pedersoli markings were removed and the serial number stamped on the bottom of the barrel. A proper "VP" and "Eagle" proof mark was added to the barrel. The correct inventory numbers were also stamped on the breech, carefully copied from original markings listed in Pete Schmidt's book US Military Flintlock Muskets.
A brass front sight was then added to the front band, and the swivel pins were replaced with proper taper pins. The entire musket was then lightly antiqued before the musket was re-assembled.
This musket would be a perfect choice for any shooter or reenactor who wishes to portray an early war Confederate. This beautiful musket is being offered here for less than the price a stock musket from Dixie Gunworks.
