Description

Here's an economical way for any Civil War collector to have a piece of real Confederate history in his collection. This Fayetteville rifle was restored using a combination of Fayetteville parts, M1855 Harper's Ferry rifle parts, and reproduction components.

The original Fayetteville components include the lock, barrel, and butt stock. The lock is a beautiful Fayetteville Type III lock and is all original inside and out featuring the typical "hand-filed" parts that identify Confederate workmanship. The lock plate has some light pitting which has partially obscured some of the eagle stamp; however the rest of markings remain legible. The hammer is original to the lock and holds solid on both full and half cock.

The butt stock is in good solid shape with some minor burnout behind the hammer. The forend is a modern replacement which is fastened securely to the butt stock. The barrel bands are the correct style for a Fayetteville rifle but are actually from a M1855 Harper's Ferry rifle. They are both original and in good condition. The ramrod and nosecap are both reproductions. The buttplate and trigger assembly are both original but do not appear to be Confederate made.

The barrel matches the lock well and has some heavy pitting near the bolster. The bore is rough but the rifling is still present.

This rifle would be a great additional to anyone's collection at only a fraction of the price of a complete Fayetteville rifle.
