Description
The Brunswick rifle has gained a real following among collectors due to its unique two-groove rifling. It fired a "belted" bullet that had fins molded along its sides that locked into the rifling when loaded and fired. This particular rifle is a true English gun, not one of the countless copies made by the Nepalese. The lock is marked "TOWER" with a crown and the "VR" cypher of Queen Victoria. The lock is also dated 1844 which makes it a first model, and very rare. The barrel features a whole host of appropriate British proof marks.
This rifle is in good shape. It is all original from top to bottom. The lock works, but doesn't always consistently hold full cock. There is scattered pitting on the lock plate, but the markings are very crisp and legible. The barrel is full length and the bore is dark but the rifling is still very crisp.
The stock is nice with some minor handling marks, and only one area of repair around one of the wedge keys (see the last picture).
The furniture is all original and matching. The patchbox functions properly.
