The M1853 Sharps Carbine has been nicknamed the "Beecher's Bible" in honor of the famous abolitionist Henry Ward Beecher who once said, "there was more moral power in one of those instruments, than in a hundred Bibles". These Sharps carbines were often smuggled to Kansas abolitionists in crates marked "books" thus cementing the nickname. The '53 Sharps' role in the abolishment of slavery has made it very desirable among collectors.

This particular carbine is in great condition. It appears to be all original with the exception of an American-made reproduction rear sight. The lock works great with a reliable half and full cock. The lock plate, along with the rest of the steel components are covered in a light salt and pepper pitting, but all the markings are crisp and legible.

The stocks are solid with a small cosmetic crack near the lock plate and some nice figure in the butt stock.

The block locks up nice and tight with no wiggle whatsoever.

The barrel is full length and the bore is lightly pitted with strong rifling.
