This original U.S inspected Remington New Model Army Revolver is in great shape and features great markings, and features a unique period grip modification to shape the handle more like a Colt. This is the first time we've seen such a modification and think it adds a lot of character to the piece and makes for a great conversation point...was the modification done by a gun fighter after the war for faster cocking?....quite possibly; perhaps even likely. But without documentation to back it up, we're selling this pistol for what it is - a nice honest M1863 Remington with a modified grip (and we've adjusted the price to reflect this).

The action is very smooth with a nice tight lock up and minimal cylinder wobble when cocked. The hammer holds solid on both full and half cock.

The frame, barrel, and cylinder all feature numerous subinspector stamps; which is indicative of a military gun with all it's original components. The Remington address on the barrel is good legible; as is the serial number.

There is no real rust or pitting on this pistol and many of the protected areas of the pistol still retain traces of their original blued finish.

The bore and chambers are good with sharp rifling and no major pitting.

This pistol still has a lot of life left in as both a shooter and a collector's item!
