Here's an incredible early musket in wonderful condition. This original M1795 is one 9,700 assembled at the Springfield Armory in 1810, meaning that it most definitely saw real service during the War of 1812. This musket is all correct and is identical to "Musket Number 4" pictured in Kent W. John's new book Springfield Armory Infantry Musket 1795-1844.
The stock is in great shape with all of its cartouches and inspectors stamps still legible meaning this beauty was never sanded or refinished. The lock is very sound except for an old repair behind the lock which is very sound.
The lock was expertly reconverted by Steve Krolick. In fact, it is no exaggeration to say that this is the nicest, most convincing re-conversion that we've ever seen. The flint components, made by Rifle Shoppe are expertly fit and antiqued to match the lock; so much so that this musket could easily be passed off as an original flintlock. Of course, however, in the interested of honesty and integrity, we are marketing this piece just as it is - as a beautifully re-converted musket. The lock plate has wonderfully crisp markings and the cock holds solid on both full and half cock.
The barrel is full length and very nicely reconverted. In fact, it is impossible to determine where the re-conversion work was done. The stamps at the breech are crisp and legible. The barrel is full length and the bore is in "as found" uncleaned condition.
The furniture is all original and the ramrod is full length. This is an awesome opportunity to own a War of 1812 era musket for a price that's comparable to what defarbed reproductions are sold for!
